My SPF Rotation

Sunscreen is one of those products I use every single day, so texture matters almost as much to me as the protection itself. If a formula feels too heavy, looks greasy or makes makeup sit badly, I know I won’t enjoy reaching for it.
These three options all offer SPF 50 protection, but each one feels suited to a slightly different kind of routine.
When I Want A Polished Finish
Estée Lauder Perfectionist Pro Multi-Defense Aqua UV Gel SPF 50 is the one I’d choose when I want my sunscreen to feel a little more refined and makeup-friendly.
I tend to prefer gel-like SPF formulas under foundation because they usually feel lighter than traditional creams and are easier to layer without creating that heavy, coated feeling on the skin. This is the type of sunscreen I’d wear on workdays or whenever I’m doing a full makeup look and want my base to stay smooth.
I’d apply it as the final step of skincare, let it settle properly and only then move on to makeup.
For An Easy Everyday Routine
CosIQ Serum SPF 50 Sunscreen immediately appeals to me because of the serum format. On mornings when I don’t want multiple layers of skincare, I naturally gravitate toward products that feel lighter and more fluid.
I’d especially consider this type of formula during warmer weather or on days when my skin already feels well moisturised. A serum sunscreen can make the routine feel much less complicated, especially if I’m trying to avoid piling a rich cream underneath.
I’d still use a generous amount, though. No matter how elegant the texture is, SPF only works properly when enough product is applied.
When My Skin Needs Extra Comfort
Dot & Key Blueberry Hydrate Barrier Repair Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++ feels like the most skincare-focused option of the three. The packaging highlights hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which immediately makes me think of dehydrated or barrier-stressed skin.
I’d reach for this one when my face feels dry, tight or simply needs a little more comfort. I also like that it is labelled fragrance-free, because I usually prefer simpler formulas when my skin feels sensitive.
For me, this would probably be the easiest choice during colder months or whenever I want sunscreen to double as a more moisturising final skincare step.
What I’d Pick
I’d choose Estée Lauder for makeup days, CosIQ when I want something light and uncomplicated, and Dot & Key when hydration is my priority. The best sunscreen, in my opinion, is always the one you actually enjoy applying generously and consistently every morning.
