A comforting dinner does not need a long ingredient list or complicated preparation. This creamy garlic chicken brings together golden chicken pieces, fragrant garlic, tender spinach, and a smooth sauce in one skillet.
The creamy mixture coats the chicken while the spinach adds color and a fresh, savory flavor. Serve it with rice, pasta, or crusty bread to make a satisfying meal that fits easily into a busy evening.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
5 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup heavy cream
½ cup chicken broth
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 cups fresh spinach
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional

Preparation and Cooking Time

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 25–30 minutes
Total time: approximately 40 minutes
Servings: 4

Instructions

1. Season the chicken with paprika, salt, and pepper.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook the chicken until golden and fully cooked. Transfer to a plate.
3. Melt the butter in the same skillet and cook the garlic for about 30 seconds.
4. Add the chicken broth, cream, and Italian seasoning. Simmer gently.
5. Stir in the Parmesan until the sauce becomes smooth.
6. Add the spinach and cook until wilted.
7. Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over each piece.
8. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes, then garnish with parsley if desired and serve.

Adding the Spinach

Fresh spinach softens quickly when it meets the warm sauce. Add it in handfuls, stirring gently until the leaves wilt and become evenly distributed. Four cups may appear to be a large amount at first, but the leaves shrink considerably as they cook. If fresh spinach is unavailable, frozen spinach can be used instead. Thaw it completely and squeeze out excess water before adding it to the skillet. This prevents the sauce from becoming diluted.

Tips for a Smooth, Flavorful Sauce

Keep the sauce at a gentle simmer rather than allowing it to boil rapidly. High heat can cause cream-based sauces to separate or become grainy. Add the Parmesan gradually and stir as it melts for a more even finish. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small splash of broth. If it seems too thin, let it simmer briefly before returning the chicken to the skillet. Remember that the sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.
For extra flavor, a little lemon juice can be added just before serving. Its mild acidity balances the richness of the cream and cheese without overpowering the garlic.

What to Serve With It

This dish pairs well with steamed rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta, all of which can soak up the creamy sauce. Roasted vegetables or a simple green salad provide a fresh contrast to the richness of the skillet meal. Serve the chicken immediately while the sauce is warm and the spinach is tender. Spoon plenty of sauce over each portion so every serving includes garlic, spinach, and melted cheese.
Creamy garlic chicken is a practical one-pan meal that combines tender chicken with a smooth, savory sauce and wilted spinach. Cooking the chicken first, gently simmering the cream, and adding the spinach near the end helps preserve the dish's texture and flavor. With familiar ingredients and a straightforward method, it makes a satisfying dinner that can be paired with a variety of simple sides.
